The Best Free Web TutorialsThe Internet is full of wonderful free gems, and web tutorials are definitely high up on our list of favorites. There are hundreds of great, free tutorials out there on everything from web building (HTML, CSS, etc.) to Flash to Photoshop.

We've put together our favorite 58 tutorial hubs and we want to share them with you. We chose these resources because they have great information, come from authoritative sources, and offer a range of tutorials. So check them out and start learning!

Programming Languages

  1. Boogie Jack: This site's tag line is "HTML and CSS Explained in Plain English," and that's exactly what you'll get at Boogie Jack. The tutorials homepage shows you everything you can learn, and it's quite a lot. It also has some great resources like an HTML Tags Chart and HTML FAQs.
  2. EchoEcho: This site breaks down its tutorials into three categories—Page Building (HTML, JavaScript, etc.), Component Building (Flash, graphics programs, etc.), and Server Programming (PERL, PHP, etc.).
  3. How-to-build-websites: This site breaks down web building into eight sections, then walks you through them. This site is nice because it starts by explaining basic concepts in words, then goes into the details with advanced tutorials.
  4. HTML: An Interactive Tutorial: This site is completely devoted to learning HTML. This tutorial is great because it is extremely detailed and provides an input box for you to test out your new skills on every page: just type out your code, hit Enter, and the site instantly generates a webpage using your code.
  5. HTML Goodies: This site focuses on HTML, providing more than eight sections of tutorials just on this subject. The site also includes a handful of tutorials that go "Beyond HTML," like CSS, Javascript, and XML. The tutorials can all be found in the left sidebar.
  6. Iron Spider: This hub will teach you everything you need to know to get started building a web page. This site is nice because it has two ways to explore the site, as a beginner or as an advanced user, which enhances your experience. It also has some nice resources listed in the left sidebar.
  7. Quackit: This tutorial hub covers all of the basics of web building. The site is broken into six sections—HTML, CSS & Design, Scripting, Database, Website Hosting, and XML.
  8. SmartWebby: This hub offers tutorials on HTML, CSS, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Flash, Web Promotion, and more. The site also offers software reviews and other useful information.
  9. Tuturialized: This site focuses on Photoshop and Flash tutorials, but it has tutorials for all things web-building, like CSS, HTML, Java, Ruby on Rails, and more. All of the tutorials have ratings, hits, comments, and votes.
  10. W3Schools: This is the best hub out there for learning how to build web pages. It has tutorials for everything you need—HTML, CSS, Browser Scripts, Multimedia, Hosting, etc.—and the tutorials are comprehensive and easy to follow.
  11. Web Design Library: The self-dubbed "One-stop Web Design Resource," this site offers user-submitted tutorials on HTML, CSS, Photoshop, 3D Graphics, and more. Each of the tutorials is rated and there are also editor's picks.
  12. Web Developers Notes: This is another great hub that provides tutorials on HTML, JavaScript, SQL, and Flash.
  13. WebDevelopmentTutorials: This site has four sections of tutorials—(X)HTML, CSS, Javascript, and PHP. The site design is simple, but if you just want information without many distractions, this is a good choice.
  14. Your HTML Source: This hub offers comprehensive tutorials on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax, and more. It has a good navigation bar on the right that breaks down the tutorials into sections and allows both beginners and more advanced users to easily find what they want.

  1. Activetuts+: This is a blog/Flash site built around providing awesome Flash, ActionScript, and Flex tutorials. The writing is casual, the information is clear and concise, and overall, this is a fantastic site for Flash tutorials.
  2. Adobe Developer Connection - Learn Flash: Adobe's web developers keep us up-to-date with these great flash tutorials. They cover everything from interactive 3D video flips to animated presentations. They also have learning guides for beginners.
  3. Entheos - Flash: Entheos provides great Flash tutorials with demonstrations, clear instructions, and screen shots.
  4. Flashkit: This site has an extremely comprehensive database of flash tutorials. The main page shows all of the categories for the tutorials and gives a great overview of what you can expect to find on the site.
  5. FlashPerfection: This is another great site devoted entirely to free flash tutorials. The tutorials are extremely well-layed out and easy to follow. For each tutorial, you can download the source files and see a demo of what you're learning. This site definitely wins on visuals and user-friendliness.
  6. Gotoandlearn: Lee Crimelow makes excellent flash tutorial videos and posts them on this site. You can stream or download the videos, and you can also download the source files.
  7. Google Video Flash Tutorials: If you're a visual learner, check out these video tutorials from all over the web.
  8. Kirupa: This site offers a mixture of text and video tutorials on Flash and ActionScript. The text-based tutorials all demonstrate the flash principle.
  9. Newgrounds: This site uses flash to create interactive, engaging flash tutorials.

  1. Adobe Developer Connection - Fireworks: These tutorials are brought to you by the developers behind Fireworks, so you know you can trust them.
  2. Articles & Blog Posts on Top Fireworks Tutorials: These articles and blogs compile some of the best Fireworks tutorials that are scattered across the web.
  3. Entheos - Fireworks: Entheos provides clear, concise Fireworks tutorials complete with screenshots.
  4. Firetuts: This is a blog completely devoted to Fireworks tutorials. Tutorials cover topics like adding radial gradient in text and creating flare effects.
  5. Google Video Fireworks Tutorials: If you're looking for variety and video, Google Video is a good place to start.
  6. Layers Magazine: Self-dubbed "The How-to Magazine for Everything Adobe," Layers offers an array of excellent Fireworks video tutorials.
  7. Tutorialized: This site has over 175 user-submitted Fireworks tutorials. There are categories, ratings, comments, and votes to help you sort through them.
  8. Voidix: These tutorials are extremely visual—they are all a few images with a sentence or two of text in between. They are very user-friendly and easy-to-understand.

  1. Adobe Developer Connection - Dreamweaver: Adobe developers offer Dreamweaver tutorials on this site.
  2. Entheos - Dreamweaver: Learn Dreamweaver tips, behaviors, templates, and CSS behavior in these Dreamweaver tutorials.
  3. Google Videos Dreamweaver Tutorials: This is Google's collection of Dreamweaver video tutorials from all over the web.
  4. Layers Magaine: As the "How-to Magazine for Everything Adobe," Layers offers some of the best Dreamweaver tutorials out there.
  5. The Site Wizard: This site covers all of the Dreamweaver basics and then some with its tutorials. The related articles at the end of the tutorial provide a great way to learn something new that you may not have been looking for.
  6. TeacherClick: While this site is old and all the tutorials focus on Dreamweaver 8, it is extremely comprehensive and written entirely for the beginner. It was also designed as a course and is broken up into units, so this structure may be better suited for some people than video or flash tutorials.
  7. Tutorialized - Dreamweaver: This site has over 25 sections of user-submitted Dreamweaver tutorials.

  1. Google Videos Photoshop Tutorials: Google's collection of all of the Photoshop tutorials it can find.
  2. PhotoshopCafe: This site is devoted to Photshop training and has sections on tutorials, reviews, forums, and more.
  3. PhotoshopContent: This site revolves around Photoshop contests for members, but it also has a great tutorials section.
  4. PhotoshopEssentials: This site has an extensive collection of Photoshop tutorials for beginners. It also offers free Photoshop Brushes to download.
  5. PhotoshopLady: This site collects all of the best Photoshop tutorials from all over the web. Tutorials are divided into eight categories and all of them have ratings and page views. You can also submit your own tutorial.
  6. PhotoshopLover: This site compiles Photoshop tutorials from all over the web. There are multiple sections and you can sort each by Newest, Most Popular, and Most Views.
  7. PhotoshopStar: This is another Photoshop blog that provides great, visual, easy-to-follow tutorials.
  8. Photoshop Tutorials: This is a fantastic resource for Photoshop tutorials, downloads, inspirations, and more. The tutorials all have great visuals and are written in plain language.
  9. PSDtuts+: This is another awesome Photoshop blog. What makes this blog stand out from the others is the drop-down Tutorial menu at the top of the page, which makes finding what you want a snap.
  10. Pshero: This is a comprehensive Photoshop blog with a great design and section dedicated to tutorials. Tutorials all fall into four categories—Graphic Design, Photo Effects, Text Effects, and Tips & Tricks.
  11. Tutorial9: This blog is all about offering free tutorials and resources. The Photoshop tutorials are very well-done and readers get the added benefit of an assortment of comments to go along with the tutorial.

Final Cut

  1. Atomic Learning: This site offers a collection of free tutorials on Final Cut. The free videos do not use the most up-to-date versions of Final Cut, but the concepts and many of the details remain consistent with the latest version. Paid subscribers have access to more tutorials.
  2. GeniusDV: This site offers training and consulting services for a fee, but it also has this great section for free Final Cut Pro courseware.
  3. Google Videos Final Cut Tutorials: Google's compilation of Final Cut Videos.
  4. LAFCPUG: This is the site for the Los Angeles Final Cut Pro User Group. Group members post tutorials on everything Final Cut, and there are already over 200 that cover topics as broad as "Guide to Final Cut Pro Internal Tools" and as narrow as "Flash Cutting with the Blink Filter."
  5. Lynda.com: This site provides nearly three hours of free video training for Final Cut Pro. Topics include "Superimposing video layers," "Applying filters," and "Performing color correction."
  6. MacProVideo: This site offers a great 60-minute video tutorial produced by one of the original designers of Final Cut Pro and the founder of macProVideo. The tutorial is fantastic—it is broken down into meaningful sections and the instruction and visuals are extremely well done.
  7. Peachpit: While this site mostly centers around paid products, it does provide some free sample tutorials of extremely high quality. The color correction tutorial is a 15-page professional PDF, complete with screenshots.
  8. Ripple Training: This site was created in order to offer Final Cut users resources and training. It offers 19 free video tutorials on Final Cut Studio, as well as many reasonably priced tutorials both on DVD and as an instant download.
  9. Zoom In Online: This site offers high-quality video tutorials for Final Cut Studio. The site says it will add a new video tutorial weekly to commemorate the launch of Final Cut Studio.
